5 Tips to Online Learning

Since NIMAA was founded, our innovative model has had students learn in their clinics and online. Our instructors have seen it all, and they know a lot about what can contribute to a student’s success when learning online. Now that schools across the country are turning to online instruction, we have 5 tips to share with students from our instructors!

Set yourself up for success

Settling into a designated workspace helps to put you in a mindset that is ready to learn. The best place to take in all this information is a clean quiet room free from distractions.

Make sure everything is in working order

No one likes surprise interruptions. Be sure to test your internet connection, log in, and set up your microphone and camera prior to the start of class to help avoid mid-class disconnects.

Be prepared to engage

You want to get the most out of your education. In order to do this, reach out to your instructor before class with any questions, review notes from your previous lessons, and come to class with any materials needed to actively participate and engage in conversation.

Set a schedule for yourself

With the flexibility of online learning comes the challenge of time management. Be sure to look at course schedules/assignments and determine which days work best to complete assigned work based on specific due dates. Building time for classwork into your schedule will help ensure you have enough time to get your work done and avoid potential last minute scrambling.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Students in distance education programs sometimes forget that they can seek help from their teachers. Your instructors want to see you succeed and are there to help. All you have to do is ask.
