Denver, CO: November 10, 2025— The National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) is proud to announce it has received official approval and licensure from the Rhode Island Council on Postsecondary Education. This milestone marks the twenty-eighth state to approve operations for NIMAA to continue its mission of providing access to high-quality, affordable, and innovative medical assistant training nationally.
This approval certifies that NIMAA meets all the requirements for private occupational schools across the state in compliance with the Standards for the Operation of Proprietary Schools set forth in the Regulations Governing Proprietary Schools in Rhode Island.
NIMAA was founded by two leading Federally Qualified Health Centers, Salud Family Health and Community Health Center, Inc., to make post-secondary education and health careers accessible to students from medically underserved communities. NIMAA graduates are prepared to succeed in high-performing, team-based practices through a combination of flexible online learning and an extensive hands-on externship experience in NIMAA’s partner primary care clinics across the US.
“We are honored for the opportunity to expand our training program to another state on the East Coast,” said NIMAA Executive Director Mary Blankson. “This expansion allows us to continue our mission of helping close the critical healthcare workforce gap by providing top-tier medical assistant training to students who may otherwise not be able to afford this level of quality education. We look forward to partnering with local health centers and other organizations across Rhode Island to make this happen.”
NIMAA is now recruiting externship partners for its Fall 2026 cohort. Learn more at nimaa.edu or email Director of Business and Partnership Development Ali Murray at [email protected].
