The National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA), based in Denver, CO, is pleased to announce it has been approved as a registered Out-of-State Institution by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education. NIMAA was founded in 2016 by two community health centers – Community Health Center, Inc. and Salud Family Centers of Colorado. Since then, NIMAA has transformed the education of Medical Assistants nationally by creating an innovative training program that prepares graduates to work at the top of their scope in team-based, high-performing healthcare settings. NIMAA students participate in on-line learning concurrent with hands-on experience from day one in a health center in their area. With a curriculum spanning eight months, NIMAA is more efficient than traditional MA programs, which can take up to two years to complete. Designed not to burden students with debt as they begin their medical careers, NIMAA’s tuition is less than half the $15,000 and higher charged by most private MA programs. With the addition of California, NIMAA is now able to enroll applicants from 26 states, with students being trained from coast-to-coast, including CO, CT, HI, ID, IL, MO, MT, NY, OH, OR, PA, TX and UT. Many NIMAA students are the first in their families to pursue higher education, with the opportunity to move up the healthcare career ladder. NIMAA is an important conduit to workforce development, with Medical Assisting being one of the fastest growing occupations nationally. The Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates the need for MAs to grow 16% from 2021-2031, much faster than overall occupational growth (5%), or other healthcare support occupations (12%). There are 117,800 projected medical assisting jobs expected to be added in the next decade. According to NIMAA Executive Director John Ephraim Butt, MEd, MHRM, “As the most populous state in the country, California has been top-of-mind for NIMAA and our accessible, affordable Medical Assistant training program. The need for highly skilled allied health workers is critical and NIMAA is excited to expand our partnerships with community health centers and clinics in the state to enhance workforce opportunities in healthcare.” NIMAA is an affiliate of the Moses/Weitzman Health System, the nation’s first health system dedicated to primary care for underserved populations. |
